How do I back up my diary, and how do I restore it?
Diary Up is offline-first: your entries are stored on your device. If you want an extra copy, open the
backup screen inside the App and create a backup. On iOS the backup is stored in a private container
in your personal iCloud Drive, so you can restore it on another device signed in with the same Apple ID.
To restore, open the same backup screen on the new device and choose the backup you want to recover.
Restoring may take a while for large diaries with photos, videos and voice recordings — keep the App open
and connected to Wi-Fi until it finishes.
The App is stuck on “Uploading to iCloud…”. What can I do?
- Make sure iCloud Drive is enabled in iOS Settings → your name → iCloud, and that you are signed in.
- Connect to a stable Wi-Fi network and make sure you have free iCloud storage space.
- Large backups (many photos and videos) can take several minutes. Keep the App in the foreground while it uploads.
- If it does not move for a long time, force-quit the App, reopen it and start the backup again. The App cleans up incomplete uploads, so a retry is safe.
- Still stuck? Email us with your device model, iOS version and the App version (More → About).
I forgot my app lock PIN, or Face ID is not working.
The PIN and Face ID / Touch ID lock are handled entirely on your device, and the PIN is never sent to us,
so we cannot look it up. Face ID / Touch ID problems are usually fixed by re-enrolling the biometric in
iOS Settings → Face ID & Passcode, or by removing and re-adding the permission for Diary Up.
If you are locked out, email us from the address you used to contact us before and describe your situation —
we will do our best to help you find a way back into your data without compromising the security of the App.
I am not receiving my diary reminders.
- Check that notifications are allowed: iOS Settings → Notifications → Diary Up → Allow Notifications.
- Check the reminder time inside the App (More → Reminders) and make sure the reminder is switched on.
- Focus / Do Not Disturb modes and Low Power Mode can delay or silence notifications.
- Reminders are local notifications generated on your device, so they do not need an internet connection.
How do I export my diary?
Open the export option inside the App to save your entries to a file you can keep or move to another device
(for example TXT or PDF). Exported files are created on your device and are not uploaded to us.
How do I delete my data?
- Delete single entries inside the App; deleted entries are removed from your device.
- To remove everything local, delete the App from your device.
- To remove cloud backups, use the backup screen inside the App, or iOS Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage.
- We do not hold a copy of your diary on our servers, so there is nothing else for us to delete on your behalf.
Do I need an account? Does Diary Up show ads?
No account is required, and Diary Up does not show ads. The App does not use advertising identifiers and does
not track you across apps or websites. Anonymous crash reports and usage statistics (Firebase) help us fix
problems; the content of your diary is never included. See our
Privacy Policy for details.
Why does the App ask for camera, microphone, photo, location or Face ID permission?
- Camera / Photo Library: to attach photos and videos to your entries, and to save images from the App.
- Microphone: to record voice diaries and voice notes.
- Location: only if you choose to add a location to an entry; it stays on your device.
- Face ID / Touch ID: to unlock the App. Biometric data never leaves your device.
Each permission is requested only when you use the related feature, and you can change it at any time in
iOS Settings → Diary Up.
